In the world of baby & children’s photography, many photographers refer to their clients as Miss or Mr so and so.  So here is Little Miss B!  She is a new part of the byDesign Visuals family, and I hope that you will visit here from time to time to see how she has grown and changed!  You can come and visit her here (but remember she is a newborn, so no loud noises!):

Earth Day

April 22, 2009 at 4:53 am (Uncategorized, Wedding Photography, Weddings) (, , )

veggies

Seeing that tomorrow is Earth Day, I have decided to celebrate and do my small share to save the Earth.  In our backyard we have a small raised bed, and I have decided to utilize that to plant a small vegetable garden!  I picked up some seeds today at the store, and I hope to start them indoors before moving them outdoors when the weather warms up a bit more.  I’m going to attempt to grow some Red Cored Danvers Carrots, Peaches and Cream Bicolour Corn, Romaine Lettuce, Garlic Chives, Lincoln Homesteader Peas, and of course a Sugar Baby Watermelon!  As my Dad can attest to, I have tried for many years to grow a watermelon (which I love), and I have NEVER had a successful season!  I hope that being in Calgary helps out a bit  We also have a small garden in the front of the yard which I am going to plant some Evening Sun Sunflower and some Lupins.  It should make our house quite the sight when they are all in bloom.

For Earth day, I am also going to not use my desktop computer for the entire day.  It is quite the power hog, and my not running it I will be saving that extra little bit of power.

Just doing my part!  To see more on Earth Day, visit Earth Day.

Ever heard of del.icio.us?

April 19, 2009 at 5:34 am (Wedding Photography) (, , )

Have you ever heard of a little website called del.icio.us?  It’s a really cool little site that allows you to save all of your bookmarked webpages from ANY browser (Firefox, Safari, and of course Internet Explorer) and access them on ANY computer!  While this may not seem that amazing, have you ever found a really cool site at home that you thought your co-workers would enjoy…and then couldn’t remember that site once you got to work the next day?  I know I have, and its annoying.  But now you can juse use del.icio.us to move your favourites to and from work and home with ease!  Check it out!

The reason I am blogging about this is because my proofing site allows you to share your proofs with others in various ways, such as through Digg.com, Sphinn.com, del.icio.us, Facebook, Mixx.com, and Google Bookmarks.  If you have had a session in the past and still have access to it, in the bottom right corner of the page you will see icons for each of the above icons.  Simply click on the appropriate icon, and you can share your photos via that website!  Neat, eh?  Haha I don’t think I have actually ever used the word neat in a sentence before…shoot.

Mike Edel “Turn the Lights on Bright” on Vimeo

April 7, 2009 at 5:35 am (Wedding Photography)

Recognize the song name in the title of this post?  No?  You should, right now that song is the main track on my website!  It’s written and sung by my friend, Mike Edel, and he has graciously lent it to me to add a nice audio aura to the website.  He has also recently released his first music video, which was shot in Victoria, BC, about an hour from where I grew up.  Seeing it made me miss the ocean…  Good luck in your musical adventure Mike and blessings, the video is great!

Music Video for the artist Mike Edel. myspace.com/mikeedel.  Big thanks to Nigel Barry for driving with no shame, dodging cops like no other and not getting into an accident until we finished shooting the video.  Shot on HVX200 with Letus Adapter.

A new look for the blog

April 5, 2009 at 11:29 pm (Canon, Fun, Photojournalism, Portraits, Uncategorized, Wedding Photography, Weddings)

I figured it was time for a change, so I’ve changed the look of this blog.  Just a few new colors, to go along with the new season of wedding and engagement shoots!  It’s about time for spring to come, so I hope that this little change will bring about some warmer weather and blooming flowers!

the answer…

April 4, 2009 at 5:47 am (Canon, Wedding Photography)

Thanks to all of you who voted (although the numbers were a little lower than I thought they would be lol). Unfortunately, no one guessed correctly!  I bought a Canon 100mm Macro lens, which allows me to focus closer than a regular lens can.  I’ll be using it mainly for ring and detail shots, but also some portraits.  It’s definitely a lens that every wedding photographer should have.

Check out the spec’s here:

In the next few weeks I hope to be doing more shooting as the weather gets nicer, so stay tuned for some new images!

News on the wedding forefront…

March 9, 2009 at 5:58 pm (Wedding Photography, Weddings)

After the blizzard we had Saturday night, it was quite an adventure getting out to go downtown for coffee!  It was worth it though – announcing my newest bride and groom to be – B & M!  These 2 were in A & S’s wedding party last summer, and they were a lot of fun to work with! Can’t wait for your big day in August!

On another note, I love meeting new couples and starting out on the journey with them towards one of the most important days of their lives!  It’s awesome to just chat with them over a cup of coffee and get to know them.  Life is great being a wedding photographer in Calgary!

Once the weather gets better, I am going to be doing some fun, artistic shoots with various brides that I have either worked with in the past, or will be working with in the future!  Stay tuned for some outta this world stuff!

Patina Design shots

February 8, 2009 at 5:05 am (Fun, Photojournalism, Portraits, Wedding Photography, Weddings)

A few weeks ago my friend Jenn asked me to do some portrait shots for her website, as well as some shots of her interior design for her website.  She is an up and coming interior designer, and she does great work!  Check her out at http://www.patinadesign.ca/!

Here are some of the results:
